Red eye flight, 3 am, don’t know when I’ll see you again, but I hope it’s soon.

Get in at 5 and shut the doors, wish my hand was holding yours, as we’ve broken in two.

I reach in a drawer and find a letter stored, signed with your ink and stamped, glossy smooth.

Not feeling sure, I sense as if the floor sinks from where I stood.

It said sometimes you live and sometimes you grow and sometimes you marry someone you

shouldn't oh, I’m not sorry.

And there's times you hurt and others you learn, but my stuff’s in the backseat, so now it's my

turn to go and move on.

I close the letter as it starts to rain.

You wrote me a dear John addressed to James.

Get me out of Texas.

Two years go by, most of the same, pointing fingers, assigning blame, as our family slowly

fades.

You say we’re different people now, but I can’t imagine how after a kid and a house, you’re

putting us through

Our final goodbye, his little hand in mine. Our teary eyes shine, as you board the flight.

I catch a glimpse of your frame in the glass as you slam down the shade.

Because sometimes you live and sometimes you grow, and you start a life with the wrong

person, ohh, I’m sorry.

And there's times you laugh and others you learn, but we had something then you watched as it

burned, and fell apart.

I drive away down the darkened highway until the dawn

One moment you loved me, and now I’m just a dear John.

Because he got to live, and thrive as he’s grown, and I wish I didn’t miss so much of it though,

I'm sorry.

And there were times he hurt, but he triumphed in turn, oh, but I watched from afar waiting for

my turn.

This place will always remind me of that forsaken night when you tore a hole through our lives.

I’ll never forget that feeling I get when I go back to Texas.
