Storm, My Green-Eyed Boy
We found you when the world was closing in
When streets were quiet
And days blurred softly into one another.
From a careful breeder’s arms
Into ours,
You came home like a promise
That something gentle could still begin.
Storm.
Your name sounded wild,
But your eyes
Those deep, green, knowing eyes
Held nothing but understanding.
Stormy when you raced the hallway at midnight,
A flash of silver and fluff.
Mister Man when you sat so properly,
Chest puffed out,
As if you had important thoughts to think.
Bub when you followed me everywhere,
My soft-footed shadow.
Little Man when you answered me back
Like we shared a private language.
Squishy Face when I cupped your cheeks
And you leaned into my hands
Like you belonged there.
You were a Siberian with a lion’s coat
And a healer’s heart.
When I was sick,
When my body ached
Or my mind felt too heavy,
You somehow knew.
You always knew.
You would climb beside me without being called,
Curl carefully against my chest,
Purring low and steady
Like you were stitching me back together
With sound alone.
Your warmth was medicine.
Your presence was peace.

Five years.
Five beautiful, impossible years
That feel both endless and too short.
You grew with me in those strange pandemic days.
When the world felt uncertain,
You were constant.
When I felt alone,
You stayed.
I still expect to see those green eyes
Watching me from the doorway.
Still listen for the soft trill
That meant, I’m here.
And maybe you are
In sunbeams on the floor,
In the quiet weight of blankets,
In the memory of your steady purr
On my hardest days.
Storm,
My Stormy,
My Mister Man,
My Bub,
My Little Man,
My sweet Squishy Face
You were more than a cat.
You were comfort.
You were intuition wrapped in fur.
You were love that showed up
Exactly when I needed it.
And you always will be.
