# Night Thoughts

## Night Thoughts

by Jack Palacios

### Lyrics:

Half awake near the dawn,
too late to start something better,
too early to move on.

She’s been gone for about an hour now,
but it feels like twenty years.

Alone in a house never colder,
with feelings too pushed down to feel.

You think about the flowers
that you’d like to send her one day.

She was the one, but you stood there silent,
’cause you “didn’t know what to say.”

No, you didn’t know what to say.
No, you didn’t know what to say.

But you’ll never learn,
you’ll never try,
you’ll never break,
you’ll never buy.

You’ll be alone all the same.
You’ll overthink,
be at the brink
because of a mistake
you made ten years to the day.

You think,
“If I didn’t worry so much,
maybe we’d still be in touch,”
as you scroll through photos
Filled with empty smiles.

It’s just in your head,
go back to bed.

It’s a night thought,
and in the end,
it’ll pass.

It’s easy to say
I wouldn’t make that mistake again
in your head,
in your bed
then in the moment.

Hindsight’s a gift,
but due to ignorance
we choose to never change.

But three a.m. comes.
You’re alone with the dark spots
and all of the thoughts
that you keep in the past.

It couldn’t last,
but you tried,
denied what you saw
and died inside a little
as you watched her become
something less than someone
but instead just a mirror
of a man telling her who to be.

And why do we play these games
whilst scrubbing blood stains
off the remains of relationships
people we talk to
’cause we can’t think
of a better reason why?

But we’ll never learn,
we’ll never try,
we’ll never break,
we’ll never buy.

We’re all alone.
We overthink,
are at the brink
because of words that we said
that can never be changed.

We think,
“If we didn’t worry so much,
maybe we’d still be in touch,”
as you scroll through photos
Filled with empty smiles.

It’s just in our heads,
go back to bed.

It’s a night thought,
and in the end,
They pass.

It’s just in my head.
It’s just in my head.
It’ll pass.
