Prospect Park

A crisp fall breeze blows through my hair

As Autumn continues to linger in the air

My feet step across the pavement, as I make my way down the street

With my H&M dress, knotty hair, and backpack as big as me

Each brownstone I pass, has a comforting tone

At the time, I lived in one of my own

Kids yell and laugh as I stroll past the park

Back then, I could play there until it got dark

I walk into the park, and through the trees

Without a thought in my mind, I follow the breeze

Large green trees cover the the park, with shade

Allowing younger me to climb on them, as I played

Bikes and joggers zoom around

Whilst I lay on the grass, as the sun beats down

Once I reach the play ground, I finally break free

An opportunity to let out all of my energy

Energetic kids, hot metal bars

Obstacles, and icee carts

Marks on my knees from playing too hard

Red hands, from the monkey marks

Sand on my clothes from the sand box

White marks on my fingers, from chalk

Water on my face from the sprinkler slashes

Boredom leaves my body, after sitting through 6 hours of classes

My mind runs free, in sync with the wind

Letting out all pushed-down energy from within

I let out a breath, as I stare up at the sky

Wondering what growing up just might be like
