Spread the Message about Sulfur Dioxide
By Sky A.
The reason I was interested in learning more about sulfur dioxide is because the name sounds really cool, like it's some sort of deadly poison. Once I started looking into it a bit more, I found that it mostly affects your lungs in a negative way.
Sulfur Dioxide
An informational text
The element I chose is sulfur. Sulfur has 16 protons and electrons when it is stable and generally also generally has 16 neutrons. Its atomic number is 16. The atomic number determines what element it is. Its mass number is 32.06. On the periodic table, its period is 3 and its group is 16. The element sulfur is a pale yellow and brittle nonmetal. It is insoluble- or incapable of being dissolved- in water and isn’t a very good electrical conductor. It reacts well with many other elements, and when burned, it produces sulfur dioxide (UCAR Center for Science Education, n.d.).
- Protons - positively charged subatomic particles
- Electrons - negatively charged subatomic particles
- Neutrons - neutrally charged subatomic particles
- Atomic Number - how many protons are in the atom
- Mass Number - how many protons and neutrons are in the atom
- Period - row on the periodic table
- Group - column on the periodic table
